About

Coffee
The Coffee Shop Soundtrack originally started a year and a half ago as my creative/personal outlet when I began at Ryerson University.  My name is Leah Wong, I’m a journalism student with a self-diagnosed caffeine addiction.  While the name, The Coffee Shop Soundtrack, is based on an All Time Low song, the idea behind the site is loosely based on the practice of going out for coffee.  The beginning of my true social life, began when I was in junior high, and had a few girlfriends that I would go out for coffee every week with.  In studying the sociology behind popular culture last semester, I returned to the idea of “going for a coffee”.  In our culture, going for a coffee is less about actually drinking coffee and more about the social aspect of it.  The Coffee Shop Soundtrack is a discussion of aspects of my life that I would often discuss if I was out for coffee with a friend.

Cupcakes
I have a broad range of interests, creating the mosaic that is The Coffee Shop Soundtrack.  I am huge foodie, and enjoy both going out for food as well as making it myself.  I have been referred to as both the cupcake queen and a cupcake connoisseur by my friends.  My favourite part of my hometown, Calgary, apart from the fact my family is there, is Crave Cupcakes.  Not only do they have the best cupcakes I have ever eaten (and I’ve eaten a lot!) but there are a lot of good memories behind them – whether it was my sixteenth birthday, my last night in Calgary before I moved, or even just a simple day out with friends.  My Cupcake Quest is the search for Toronto’s best cupcake, hopefully one that will compare to Crave.

Journalism
My interest in journalism started at a young age, mainly through my love of reading and my desire to learn as much as I possibly could. Eventually this translated into a passion for sharing what I knew with others – I have always seen the value in education and the need to inform the general public about important issues. At the school, I am the VP Administration for Journalists for Human Rights, a group focused on rights based media.

On the side, I write for College Candy as well as Shi Studio. In Oct. 2009 I was an editorial intern at Global News: Online, where I worked on Days of Remembrance, their Remembrance Day micro-site.
